General Municipal Election
The City's next General Municipal Election will be held on March 5, 2024 for 3 Councilmember seats. The term of office will begin March 5, 2024 and end on March 7, 2028.
Qualification for Office
B. Any such person shall have been a bona fide resident of the city for at least one year next preceding the date of the election at which he desires to be a candidate for such elective office; and
C. A council member who has been elected or appointed to four four-year terms whether consecutive or not, shall not be eligible to be a candidate for election to the office of council member again. A council member elected or appointed to serve two years or more of an unexpired term shall have that term counted as a "four-year term" for purposes of this section. A council member elected or appointed to serve less than two years of an unexpired term shall not have that term counted as a "four-year term." This section shall apply prospectively, meaning that it eliminates previous limitations on holding office and shall apply to council members elected or appointed to office on and after the effective date of this section. Becoming a candidate
Those interested in becoming a candidate for the March 5, 2024 election must file nomination papers with the City Clerk during the nomination period.
Please review AB 571 before making, soliciting, or receiving contributions for candidacy for City of Temple City City Council. Maximum allowable campaign contribution limits are adjusted biennially, beginning June 2019 (next update is June 2021). Campaign limits are set by state statute.
Filing Process (pull papers) - To request and receive candidate paperwork (pull paper), please make an appointment with the City Clerk, cityclerk@templecity.us. During this meeting, the City Clerk will provide you with a candidate handbook and all the necessary forms for your candidacy. This process will take approximately 1 hour.
Filing completed candidacy nomination papers - To file your nomination paperwork, please make an appointment with the City Clerk. The City Clerk will review your nomination papers and related documents to make sure all necessary requirements are met. This process may take up to 1 hour. There is no cost to be issued nomination papers and receive a Candidate's Handbook, which is provided free to all persons considering becoming a candidate, nor is there a fee to file nomination papers.

If a candidate chooses to submit a candidate statement, there is an estimated fee of $2,500 to cover the mandated translation, printing, and distribution of that statement in the sample ballot booklets.
